Egg Salad.

I’m far too tired for this… or at least yesterday I was. Attempting to do too many things finally caught up with me. The casual lie down at 4:30 turned into a three hour snooze and a missed capoeira session. Oh well, worse things happen at sea.

Time appears to have turned into sellotape and stuck itself over the fast forward button. Slight disbelief that it is already Wednesday night, my bike is still not fixed and my exams start in little over two weeks. How people find time to keep up with celebrity gossip is quite beyond me. My next relaxed looking day is a week on Friday! Can’t complain though. I actually seem to be producing things at a surprising rate.Nearly 900 Swedish words about ‘Vikitiga datum i mitt liv’ beginning with my birthday…

“Jag är född den fjortonde april nittonhundra åttiofem. Det var fjorton över fyra att vara exakt. Fjortonde minut om den fjärde tima om den fjortonde dag om den fjärde månad. Jag skulle inte vilja varit född. Förlossning började men min mors vatten inte bröt. Så är jag född med riva på min huvud var läkaren hade försökte att bryta sin vatten. Fjortonde april var dagen när Titanic sjönk också. Men tror jag inte att de vara förband!”

When I read over it now, I sound like a desperately disturbed person. I guess I just remember the unusual occurrences… though I don’t honestly remember my birthday, or the Titanic sinking for that matter. I’ve just been informed of their eventfulness.

Been working on a new logo design for our new capoeira t-shirts aswell.  Got a notebook full of capoeiraistas in silly poses which I intend to transfer on to plastic and play with tomorrow. Oh, and this beauty:

Any suggestions? Winner gets a pat on the back and half a pacet of chocolate digestives.

I let Mahgol loose with my camera at training with fruitful results! The girl is a wonder.

Tried my hand at some lyrics for TG’s GALT as well, came up with a suitably jolly tale…

Sprayed, sheered and dipped,

cosmetic factors demand the clip.

Asses shaved clean,

presented in the market ring.

Not that I am ever in the slightest bit disillusioned with our herd-like society or anything…

Oh, and I made a pretty delicious egg salad for dinner tonight as well. A fair basket of accomplishments if you ask me.

Remnants.

Half of a gigantic falafel pizza sitting on the kitchen table. I have had a magnificent food belly for several hours now. The eggnog icecream and homemade orange shortbread incredibly hold no appeal. Deffinately more than enough to eat. Pleasant evening på balkongen med TG -coffee, water pipe and  discussing political death metal lyric possibilites. Apparently I should be good at them because I am, as he so kindly put it… gross.  Still think it would be better to sing something pleasant in the charming death metal growl. Taken to practicing mine in the bath at 2 am… don’t see much of the neighbours. To see the expert at work check out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PsyMxTZkNd4

Kicki indicating where I should have left my brain.

Kicki indicating where I should have left my brain.

I’ve discovered why I have never been big in team sports… it’s the intense look of  gormlessness that comes over me when engaged in physical activity, puts off other participants supposedley.  Dirty tricks are welcomed in capoeira, but my (apparently not) feigned lobotomy look did nothing to distract my opponent, as  Kicki’s foot landed smack in my jaw shortly after this picture was taken.  Perhaps I should try insult sword fighting next time? There’s not enough witty dueling in todays world.

Elementär sjukvårdslära.

a biny little turd

a biny little turd

Almost everything is easier when the sun shines, including talking Swedish… maybe it’s because I believe that the sun’s glare is so blinding that the other party in the conversation they won’t notice my unusual grammatical constructions. However, I stick by my earlier conclusion that it is much easier to talk Swedish with non Swedes. It transpires that the grumpy lady from the second hand store is, in fact, not in the slightest bit grumpy (hang over feelings from winter fueled paranoia perhaps?) She is originally from Hungary and moved here 32 years ago… so admittedly her svenska vara jätte bättre än min, men det var roligt att prata med henne.

I had a couple of good finds today though. A mass of  5sek books for some unknown reason, including Elementär Sjukvårdslära, from 1969 which contains instructions on how to make the following gigantic whoopee cushion.

Collect the following materials... 1 turkey baster, 2 colourful ribbons, 1 extra large pitta bread, 1 cake decorating snooter and a pair of severed arms...

I also had the luck to find a large format book of  ‘Peasant Paintings’ put together by the Chinese government and this beauty…

The 1954 know-how...

Bountiful bookish bargain hunting aside, we talked about kräftskiva, skymning till grymning (dusk till dawn and the twilight zone, something that the Spaniards in our class are unfamiliar with) and the frequent occurrence of ‘nubbe’ in Swedish festival days. Also Stromness would be spelt Strömnäs på svenska, but pronounced the same and with the same meaning… fascinating stuff eh?

Plenty of painterly projects progressing periodically.

Chest wig?

Rossetti - The Blue Bower

Rossetti - The Blue Bower

Is it just me or does this square jawed young lady also have a fine covering of chest hair?

It’s been a worksome day. Didn’t quite make it to school but I have still managed to write a book review in Swedish, redraft a couple of copyright contracts, cook mushroom omlette, finish a painting and do some tattoo research. Not too shabby. Tomorrow it’s meetings and capoeira. Wonder if the sun is going to carry on shining?

If the body is a temple…

surely it should be lavishly decorated with a sign on all entrances welcoming sinners inside to be purged? I think I’d rather treat mine as my home. I can decorate is as I like, feel comfortable inside and only let friends through my doors.

Just look arround you, it's all there.

The best things in life are free.

Balcony, blue sky and a free chandelier.

Balcony, blue sky and a free chandelier.

Things like after dinner siestas, blue sky and an unashamed rummage in the garbage room. All of them priceless in every sense of the word. My day has by some happy coincidence included all three.  I also had a though today about getting over things. It is much easier to get angry, or let oneself get angry, about an abstract idea than about a physical memory… or at least I think so! I get so worked up about the make-up sentence in our homework but find it impossible to get angry about situations I have found myself in. Probably because there is the fear that if I finally allow myself to be angry about things, which in effect, I am a little ashamed to think about I might finally loose it. Hmmmm, however, there is a lot to be said for letting a little constant stream of steam out of the pot.

Konstiga läxor…

I have to say my textbooks just get weirder. Today’s exercises on using the perfect tense included the building of these sentences…

“Varför ser Anna så blek ut idag? Hon har inte målat sig.”
(Why does Anna look so pale today? She has not put on her makeup.)

and

“Jag kan tyvärr inte komma till jobbet idag. Jag har spytt hela natten.”
(Unfortunaletly I can not come to work today. I was throwing up all night.)

The price you pay for style…

Now I have a fridge full of cake, a perfectly clean house full of flowers, a cupboard full of martini glasses, a selection of long gloves, velvet dresses and hats. Why have a theme party if you don’t go all the way?

Possible genetic links between humans and mystical beasts.

06:35 am.

I keep waking up disturbingly early. As much as I would like to disassociate such things, I am blaming the moon. I think there must be a werewolf somewhere in the family. It’s a stunningly beautiful morning though. One of the joys of getting up before is theoretically healthy is that you get to see all the little wild things start their day. An abundance of finches and a miniature red squirrel have been entertaining me from the balcony. Plenty of egg yolk Easter sun and hard frost with steaming condensation for garnish. Forgetting the fact I will probably fall asleep at 3pm, it’s a rather nice way to start the day!

This week has been a succession of meetings, organsings, schools and shoppings. I am looking forwards to a blank day tomorrow!

Monday was capoeira möte, hos Martha med en mycket trevligt middag. Spicy grilled chicken with couscous salad, avocado and feta ost, followed by a quick round of electrocution. It was actually a highly productive dinner. Consequently got our booze ordered and the beginnings of our final shopping list. We’ve decided to supply a selection of salads and a grattis samba workshop seeing as we no longer have to pay for a location.

Tuesday was International Presence Exhibition, lunch and three hours of ideas flying around at university.

Some thoughtful poses from the meeting.

Some thoughtful poses from the meeting.

My notebooks seem to fill up ever so much faster than they used to! It seems that we have found some direction though. Several prospective subject students, locations and a budget ready to use. I have taken it upon myself to research and draw up some simple copyright contracts. There’s more to this malarkey than meets the eye! It’s good to involve myself in this group though. I’m looking at doing a short course on Multicultural Improvisation next term as well as continuing my Swedish. I’ve just been meandering through the prospectus for the School of Innovation, Design and Engineering. Think it might be a good place to park myself for the next couple of years.

Tuesday late afternoon was filled with secondhand store searching for burlesque 1940’s items. We found a 4pc hand made tails coat suit which fitted TG rather well. It was only 150kr but he still refused, said it just felt ridiculous. Thing is, at that price, even if you only wore it to your won funeral it’s a bargain! Hugely unfair seeing as I have coveted such an outfit for at least a decade. I will find one in tidge size eventually!

This was promptly followed by capoeira (the toilet on our floor was blocked, I hadn’t eaten and Martha kindly threw me into the wall so I now have a smashing elbow bruise, but it was still a lot of fun.) I think I talk too much sometimes!

A pleasant mix of vegetarian tacos and Swedish conversation.

Wednesday = School, sewing curtains and a scarily large and overly extravagant food shop… but it’s not every day you’re planning a 1940’s burlesque themed joint birthday party with costumes, vodka martinis and a verly large bottle of Latvian champagne!

The artistic output hasnn't been huge this week, but I like this sketch.

The artistic output hasn't been huge this week, but I like this sketch.

Thursday was yesterday! Golly, it’s only Friday, it feels like this week has been at least 8 days long already. Yesterday started far to early (though admittedly not as early as today) I had done my laundry, emptied the bins, dyed a set of icky brown silk pyjamas black, and baked a coffee, cardamom and pistachio cake by around 11am. Then it was off to town in the sunshine to pick up the last few bits and pieces… sugared almonds, check, feather boa, check, over the top pearl jewelery, check, cut glass decanter, check, double tiered cake stand, check! What would be do without second hand stores? We have decided to start renting out props… or just pretending to live in the past all the time! Hopefully there’s going to be a mound of goodies left over so me and TG are going to dress in drag, listen to swing and drink cocktails regularly for the next 6 months.

Home again. TG got busy in the kitchen. Kladdakaka och sockerkaka anyone? We’re just going to add it to the ccp confection I made earlier (I think we need the Blue Peter voices) and the obligatory sugary pink Princess Torta. Meanwhile I set about transforming my balcony into an extravagant arabesque smoking room, complete with floor cushions, water pipes, candles, incense, Brazilian cigars and that decanter of Rigan brandy. The living room is now a cosy jazz lounge with some (almost) luscious vegetation, glass bowls of sugar coated luxuries and hopefully Linda’s mahjong set. The bedroom/studio has been transformed into a bar and poker den, with a selection of comfortable armchairs and a fine zebra skin rug on the floor. I think I want to keep my place like this forever!

Sadly the hive of activity meant I missed training yesterday. I’m always sad when I don’t get my capoeira hit (I swear it’s addictive) but time is running away with us! I did manage to get my International Presence meeting notes and photographs edited and passed along though. Veggi Thai curry at one am… why I can’t sleep is beyond me. I am physically and mentally whacked… I’m sure there must be werewolf in me somewhere!
